Soy Dipping Sauce

dip

When serving dumplings or savory pancakes, a simple bowl of black vinegar is often all you need. For something a little more flavorful, I like to build a quick dipping sauce with soy sauce, which rounds out the sharpness of the vinegar and adds a little more depth. This easy sauce comes together in minutes and works with dumplings, scallion pancakes, buns and other savory snacks.

Makes: About ⅓ cup

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons black vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
½ teaspoon dark soy sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon water
¼ teaspoon sugar
½ teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
1 scallion, finely chopped
Chili oil, optional

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and stir well. Add chili oil to taste, if desired.
